La Orquesta Filarmónica del Estado de Querétaro realizará el estreno mundial de ...para atrapar un son, obra sinfónica de Mauricio Beltrán que explora las "improbables" similitudes entre el son jarocho, la música hindustaní, y las prácticas métrico-rítmicas descubiertas por Igor Stravinsky. Mauricio Beltran’s new concerto for flute and orchestra, Veinte Petirrojos de Cristal, received its world premiere by Alejandro Escuer and Orquesta Filarmónica de la Ciudad de México, under the leadership of conductor José Areán. The piece was composed as a tribute to the chilxdren victims of the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012.

*Mauricio Beltran delivered the seminar El misterio de las transformaciones: la música de Henri Dutilleux, at Escuela Nacional de Música de la UNAM. The lecture was part of the Seminario Abierto de Música Contemporánea (SAMC), organized by Dr. Alejandro Escuer and Dr. Gabriela Ortiz.
*Mauricio Beltran and British composer Christian Morris will be presenting their co-authored paper Between the Pages: Compositional Procedures in Dutilleux’s Second Symphony at the Sacher Perspectives Conference 2012, in Cardiff, UK. Other papers to be presented include: The Use of Spectograms’ Transcriptions by Gérard Grisey: Retracing the Creative Process of Spectral Polyphony in Modulations (1976-77), by François-Xavier Féron (IRCAM); and Spring Rounds: Stravinsky and the Seasonal Cycle, Stephen Walsh (Cardiff University).
*Elegía (1991) was awarded 2nd. prize in the Primer Concurso Internacional de Composición para Cuarteto de Cuerdas “Nuestra América”. The piece will be premiered in 2012 at the Foro Internacional de Música Nueva Manuel Enríquez and performed on tour by the prestigious José White String Quartet.
*Mauricio Beltran and British composer Christian Morris visited the Paul Sacher Stiftung (Basel, Switzerland) to study manuscripts for their research on Henri Dutilleux’s music.
